The PRECRISIS Project and the GATHERINGS Project, both funded through the European Union, co-organised a workshop on enhancing safety and security in public gatherings. The joint event took place in Vienna on December 4, 2024, and was hosted by the Johanniter Research and Innovation Centre.
This event brought together experts, stakeholders, and practitioners to share insights, identify challenges, and explore opportunities for enhancing the cross-project collaboration. The participants mapped out needs and knowledge gaps and discussed potential training activities for security practitioners across the EU, stressing on enhancing public safety and resilience to threats.
“The goal of the workshop was to collaboratively address key issues related to security of public spaces and gatherings, drawing on expertise from both projects. Now, we have a plan for cooperation between the networks of the communities of practice that the two project operate”, Borislav Mavrov from the European Institute said.
“This workshop marked an important step in fostering cooperation and sharing knowledge to enhance the safety and resilience of public events”, consortium partners from VICESSE and HfÖD commented.
“Big thanks to the Johanniter colleagues for hosting this workshop, proving once again the vital role of emergency first-responders within research and innovation actions to better protect public spaces from terrorism and other threats”, Andrew Staniforth from Saher (Europe) concluded.
